Default static electricity may have killed my computer????!!?!?!?!?!?

Hello:
I was wondering if anyone had any experience with this, I touched my mouse yesterday which was hooked up to a USB port on my SONY Vaios I saw a spark and my computer just shut off. Since then I just dosen;t turn on at all. I seached on the net and people have said that static electricity can fry motherboards CPU and other things. The mouse is working great though. I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions.

Well the said above yes, is true. Static electricity can damage/break hardware.
If that Vaios is a laptop however, youre probably safe from static, theyre built against that kind of stuff because theyre portable and what not.
Otherwise, that spark you saw probably was not from static, but from an internal part failing.
If the computer just wont boot up anymore, you can open it up and see what it was that sparked (if it is a desktop). If it was a laptop however, you should probably just trash it, a spark from a laptop and now it wont turn on basically means it bit the dust.

That must of been some charge, I never heard of frying a computer by just touching your mouse. The only way I know is to swap out the motherboard or power supply. Anyone else have a suggestion for Lennybruce?

it sounds like there might of been an existing fault with one of your cards and accessing your mouse that time just finally pushed it over the edge to short something out, etc. Since mice are mostly all plastic, i cant see how touching a mouse would send a charge the computer, and even then...static electricity isnt gunna travel that far without degrading the charge.

Most likely it wasn't a static charge from the information given....maybe a power supply overload? was it a big spark? did it "pop"? where did it come from exactly on the computer? can you see burn residue?

It was a spark that jumped about 1inch to the mouse there was no pop and no burn residue....

Their might be a grounding fault on your house wiring! Crazy charges like that should not have happened.

could of been a failing component then a sudden power surge or spike tha pushed it over the edge. laptops are not really worth fixing because of the price it costs best bet is to prob see if its in garuntee*
