Exclamation AMD X2 4200+ Spikes

Hey all, long time no see

The computer I built is the one I'm still using and its been a real trooper, but I've recently run into a problem that I can't find on google and I'm curious if anyone here knows what I have.

At random times, my processor will start spiking non-stop. What I mean is that for a full second both cores will spike to 100% and then drop to normal for 2-3 seconds and then spike up again until I reset the computer.

I've experienced this problem in safe mode as well while I had AVG running. My computer is clean for the most part which leads me to believe its a hardware issue. Temps seem fine @ 32c and stock HSF is functioning normally.

What has me worried is that this was a rare occurrence (maybe once a month?) and now this is happening several times a day.

The only thing I'm running that's abnormal is windowsX Vista transformation pack (v 8.1).

So, hoping someone here recognizes these symptoms. I'm hoping its not a defective processor because I've managed to lose the reciept from newegg and the manufacturer's warranty paper.

Try removing vista transformation pack as it might be using alot of cpu for some effects.

formatted.

still same issue. Computer will be chugging along fine then at a completely random time these spikes start and don't stop until I reset.

Its infuriating because when it does this I can't do anything. It takes about 12 seconds just to get my mouse to an icon, and forget opening a program or anything, by all senses and purposes the computer is this mostly dead thing until I reset. I'm stumped. :s

Also tried reseating the CPU and I did add another gig of ram (2048 mb now) about a week ago. This problem didn't appear until late march and then after september it started happening more often.

argh, getting to where I can't even play games anymore. Anywhere from 5 to 45 minutes after I start the game, it spazzes out ! I do a quick reset and get back in the game, it spazzes again 1 out of 3 times within 5 minutes !

*mutter mutter*

Well, alright. I need to redownload all the programs again. I will get the logs here as quickly as possible. (within couple days probably, have a lot of personal stuff + work going on right now)
