Default Thermaltkae V1

Anybody familiar with a thermaltke V1?

Thermaltake V1 P/N:CL-P0401

I can't register at their forums. Some debug error. Won't let me register.

It is great good reviews and all. The only thing is the fan connector is 3 pin. My motherboard is 4 pin for CPU? Should I connect it anyway to the 3 and leave the 4th alone? Or should I take it back?

Thanks,
ivnj

Hi It will work you won't beable to control the fan speed though

Then the 4 pin fans have 2 control lines?
According to the manual (which is shown in a diagram but I'll just list the pin functions):

For 4-pin there is GND, +12V, RPM, CONTROL

For 3-pin there is GND, +12V, RPM

So just connect it to the three pins and leave the fourth pin alone? The power on computer? That is safe? Or connect to another mb fan connector with only 3 pins?

It will need to be connected to the CPU fan connector on the mainboard it won't damage the PC

Chassis and CPU fans may use either 3-pin or 4-pin power connectors. 3-pin connectors are usually used for the smaller chassis fans with lower power consumption. 4-pin connectors are usually used by CPU fans with higher power consumption.

Fans and on-board fan headers are backwards compatible. Proper fan connector placement is shown in the figures below.

Fan has a 3-pin power connector; desktop board has a 4-pin fan header:

Note: when using a 3-pin power connector with a 4-pin fan header, the fan will always be on; there is no fan control.

Fan has a 4-pin power connector; desktop board has a 3-pin fan header:
