I like the CDW link. The other one might be a little high. But I may not have room in my micro case for the cdw one either. At least on the left.
Does it matter which way I mount it. Since all the holes are the same. You see where the metal loops are on one side connecting the fan to the heatsink. So if I turn it around point it the other direction since all holes are the same size. Or does 775 matter how you mount it.
it depends. the AC only installs 1 way, the fan facing toward the right. Dunno bout the rest. i have never used a standard LGA775 heatsink. only aftermarket without backplate
I have the V1 (clam-like one) myself, all those are very good performing fans, quiet, solidly built and very good performers at a very good price. I have the orb looking one (silver one) installed in another computer and it works incredibly well. Maximum temps for Intel chips is generally 70 to 75 Celsius.
Also do note that putting too much thermal paste does hinder heat transfer. I also recommend using thermal paste such as Artic Silver

I used the thermaltake version with the heat pipes in my CDW link. But they were out so got it from FRYS. I also switched to antec artic silver.
And got a molex adapter for the 3 pin case fans so both work now. And added a nothbridge fan.
Now I'm ideling at 50c. 10 degres drop. So it's much better now.
Only thing is I use a micro atx desktop case. So airflow may not be the best. I ited all the loose wires together. Look clean to me. But it may still be a issue.
But I have little desk space and under desk space.
Is 50c acceptable for idle? Or should I be concerned?
Thanks,
ivnj
