My computer died. Some odd reson the board died. But the power supply ram and everything else still works. I know it's weird only the board. We're talking socket 775 celeron D.

The only thing I can't be certain about is the CPU.

I'm getting a new board tomorrow or day after. What I'm wondering is a would a dead CPU hurt the board.

If I use onboard video, 1 ram stick, plug in power to motherboard. Nothing else. No hd or cd. Just enough to power the board. Will a dead cpu fry the board. Or will it just not turn on.

In other words will testing my cpu to see if it is dead or not fry the board. Or is it safer not to test it and just get a new CPU.

Hi I would be supprised if the CPU was no good this duz not happen very often you will most likely find it's ok and the mainboard just died. And no it won't damage the mainboard it will just give you beep error code if it's no good.

Cool, can sleep better now. Just what I needed to hear.

Anyhow to be safe. Just to test the new motherboard. Connect only ram, cpu, video card, and power supply. And power switch. Nothing else. Then wait for beeps or see if it goes to bios or not. And should I remove the grey stuff and reapply thermal grease to the top sliver part of the cpu.

And in order to boot just video, ram, and power right. Then try to power board.

Or any other precautions. It's been a while since I've fiddled with 775.

That's all you need plug the PSU in to the mainboard and instert the RAM if it has no onboard video insert a video card turn it on it should boot to post boot screen or if the cpu is faulty it will just beep.
