Default CPU throttling

Well, the problem is that whenever I play a game on my pc, the cpu fan speeds up and slows down every 5-20 seconds causing me to lag for 1-2 seconds. Ive tried using things like speedfan to keep the fan running at 100% but it always idles down once in the game. Ive ran virus, spyware, and adware scans but none helped. It has always done it but it wasnt until recently when I replaced my graphics card that it started doing it so frequently. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi mate, i think its down to power shortage, the new graphics card uses the power, and takes priority over your fan. I suggest buying a new power supply, around 400w-500w should be ok.

I think.

hi, thanks for your response, I was thinking that also, another problem that I was having after installing the new card was the computer was shutting down a few minutes after being turned on and when I would turn it on it would often times shut right back down, it usually took me a good 3-5 attempts to be able to get to my desktop without it shutting down, but that went away after about a week. It still puzzles me though.

More confirmation of the PSU being weak-- Boot up is a stressed environment... everything's tested for function at once.
Weak PSU equals not enough testing power.
