Default My CPU Speed

Alright,

So my PC is a P4 2.8 Ghz. However it is running at 1865.2

It has always been this way and I have never been able to figure it out. I built the system myself, and at the beginning I tried and tried everything I could think of. (This was numerous years ago now). In the bios I can't find anything to control the speed of the processor. (Was able to overclock on my previous amd athlon) The only thing I can find is the "CPU PnP Functions" menu which displays voltage, frequency but not the CPU speed and that menu was LOCKED. I couldn't unlock it either.

So I am wondering, is there anyway to get it running to its correct speed?

I've attached a screenshot of my SysSpec so you can see what the speed is but also what the actual operating speed is.

Thank you!

Weeell.... have you ever checked it with a Game running at full res
Or using a bechmark tool like Sandra?
They can give you a decent idea of system performance uinder load-- and this ones free:

BenchmarkHQ

I couldn't run the specific one you reccommended (Sandra I believe), it said I needed GDI+ values for windows 2000 systems. But I have XP so I am not sure.

However I ran a CPU benchmarking program from that site called "Benchmax" and it came up with the same stuff as I was before....

Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.80Ghz
Processor Speed: 1866.77Mhz

I don't get it...

Recognizes it as a 2.8 but it doesn't run at one.

MY canned hardware speech-- saves time for us both.
If you don't know brands of everything:
|MG| Free Download - EVEREST Free Edition 2.20

I suggest-- when you repost-- go into "My PCHF" under site navigation under "edit options" --scroll down the list.List all your hardware in the spaces (INCLUDE BRANDS)-- at the top-- there is an option to "allow others to view my specs" click on yes. It saves a lot of time between posts if while you check something I can go look up your mobo manufacturer's site and read the manual.
You can also list your OS...all this is a great time-saver for us-- we can view everything quickly to refresh our memories... as we are all working multiple threads at once. This would be automatic from that point on-- so if you have another problem six months from now-- we can instantly know what you have.

P4's of that time were mutliplier-locked-- you cannot change them-- it's Hard-coded in-- which it why the overclocker crowd immediately migrated to AMD-- and why the newest pentiums are unlocked again

Ahh well that explains why it is locked.

Anyway, I've gone through and listed my details for my PC and you should be able to view them.

Thanks a lot for your help!
