Default Re: Want to upgrade

Hello Angel297,

I'm guessing you have a Super Socket 7 because regular Socket 7 could only support up to 233mhz.

Super Socket 7 does show support for Pentium 3 CPUs, which I believe range up to around 1ghz. The only problem is, I doubt you'll find any of the higher speed P-IIIs in that style.

If you could find a much higher speed P-III in Super Socket 7 for really cheap, the upgrade might be worth it. But I doubt you're going to find anything much higher than 500mhz. Between 475mhz and around 700mhz, I doubt you'll notice much of a performance increase if you don't also add memory.

On Ebay I found some 500+ mhz SS7 CPUs for about 120 dollars. My advice is to save a bit more money and just buy a low end current machine. You'll spend a bit more, but then get 50x the performance.

Hope that helps!
