Default CPU good enough for Crysis

As stated in the title I am wondering whether my Prosessor is good enough for Crysis, or how powerfull/weak it is.

I have a Pentium D 2.80 GHz CPU.

My video Card is a GeForce 7900 GS, so as you can imagin, I dont have great performance. However I will soon have an 8800 Ultra.

This is my question.

After my 8800 Ultra arrives, will I still have crappy FPS and or skipping and popping issues?

When you have a crappy CPU what is it that happens? All around FPS issues, or skipping and popping?

Hello Cruentus, welcome to PCHF.

It does indeed. Scarey enough, 2.80 is the minimum CPU spec, but with an 8800 Ultra to go with it, I'm sure you won't have any problems.

Yeah like I can run other games with good FPS but occasional pops and skips.
Is taht my graphics card or my processor.

Im trying to determin what is causing teh pops and skips.

If you dont mind would you suggest to me a better processor that should carry me through this years games?

BTW, I tend to get the hardest games to play, like Crysis.

Also Im getting an 8800 GTS now, not ultra.

Heres a completely differnt question.

If you are running and 7900 GS in SLI with a 8800 GTS will Direct X 10 be available?
Or do both Graphics cards need to be Direct X 10?

You can enable/disable your SLI through display properties. If you want to use DX10, then you will need to make sure you plug your screen into the 8800, and disable SLI. Crysis will still run happily on this card, but I'm surprised you didn't save that bit extra for the Ultra.

Remember that Crysis will still run on DX9 also, but to experience Crysis in it's full awesomeness!! - you should ideally be running a 8800 with a dual core Pentium D or x2 with Windows Vista. (note that there's no point in buying Vista and not the dual core and visa versa, these need to be run together for Crysis to be able to utilize the dual core).

Thanks, I didnt know you needed a certain processor for Crysis as well.

Would you mind giving me an example of one of these Dual core pentium Ds?

Processors are what I know the least about.

I guess it wont make a huge Differnce whether I have an 8800 GTX, GTS or Ultra at this point.

uh, you have a Pentium D. a Pentium D 2.8Ghz right? yeah you have a dual core. i would kill to have a dual core. i am still stuck with a Single Core 3ghz Pentium 4. also, you cannot run a 7900GS and a 8800 in sli. you can only run either 2 IDENTICAL 7900GS (same manufacutrer etc) or same for the 8800s. the skips and pops are likely caused by your sound card. are you using a integrated sound card? if so, this could be the reason. you can also try reinstalling you sound card drivers. also, how much RAM do you have?
