Question [Answered] Buying new PC - Intel Core 2 Duo Confusion?

I'm all set to buy a new PC, and I've chosen the Advent T9408 - the only thing that is playing on my mind is it says it's 1.8Ghz - I'm not particularly knowledgeable when it comes to computers, but I'd really like closer to the 3Ghz mark to improve the performance as I'll be playing demanding games/using the internet regularly... but then it does have an Intel Core 2 Duo processor, which I did want - I'm just confused as it's meant to be super fast, but I can easily find a computer with more Ghz as my boyfriend has over 3 ... I'm not really sure what to do, can anyone teach me about this? Would be much appreciated, thanks x

You might read over this thread and the associated links >> question. Start from the first posting and work forward in time.

If you have specific questions, post them here. OK? I know there are members here who will be happy to answer your questions.

You might, also, ask your boyfriend to explain his computers to you. That will provide you with something to talk about for the rest of your life.

Have fun...

The Advent comes with a 4300 Intel processor which is equivalent to a AMD 5200. But for internet gaming the 6600 or 6700 is better but it cost more. There is no AMD equivalent and you can over clock it if you want to. GHz is no longer the big thing; it is how much work your processor will do.
The Difference between the Intel 4000 series and the 6000 series is virtualization and more cache—meaning more stuff can be handled by the 6000 than the 4000. And yes it is fast. There is a comparison chart at http://compare.intel.com/PCC/default.aspx?familyID=1&culture=en-US and http://www23.tomshardware.com/cpu.html the 6850 runs at 3 GHz. Ask your boy friend what type of CPU he has and compare?
