Default AMD processor problem

I have a question, though not sure it's really a problem (at least I hope so). I have a dell laptop (Inspiron 1501) and it has an AMD Sempron 3500 processor, wich it says runs at 1.8GHz, but when I check the system's properties most of the time it says it's 792GHz, and then it comes back to the actual 1.79GHz... is it supposed to be that way? I'm not sure, i'm a noob =D

Welcome to the site - please download and run this: CPU-Z - then tell us what it's telling you about the speed of your CPU.

Some modern Processors will go into a power-saving state when demand is low....

Mmm... even if the fluctuation happens between brief amounts of time? It's not that the figure changes every five minutes or so... it's more like it changes every 10 seconds or less

do a virus scan, u could have a vundo.trojan or something similar. i had one last week and it attaches itself to processes and makes the cpu usage fluctuate like mad.
