Default RAM Help?

Hey, I need some help.

Im interested in upgrading my RAM. I currently have a very sluggish 256 at the mo, but looking to upgrade to 1gb.

Im running a old computer (originaly Windows ME upgraded to XP), and to be honest, 256 is nowhere near enough RAM. But im stuck with a dilema, is there specific types of RAM I can buy or is any manucfacturer accepted. Will my PC be able to accept a gb of ram if it was originally 256kb?

Im just looking for general advice on what to do really, any help would be appreciated.

Cheers

Mike

First, we're going to need the PC make and model OR the motherboard make/model. Use one of these tools to get that info and then post back into this thread: http://www.pchelpforum.com/your-pc-detailed-info/

You can use the RAM upgrade scanner link in my sig-- it will take you to Crucial...the scan is free-- and they guarantee compatibilty.
You don't have to buy there, of course.

Also, many people think only about their Memory, but you can get more out of what you already have if you partition your disk (hard drive) so your execution files are in one place and your day to day work doesn't waste space in that area.
