hi all
have gone daft and am in th eprocess of building a god like system.

evga 680i sli
2 x evga superclocked ultra in sli
qx6850 extreme 3ghz x4 1333 fsb
1kw galaxy psu
kandlaf extreme mobo.

am a bit confused when it comes to the ram to buy...
will be buying ocz ram cos its had good reviews and is reasonable in price, reaper edition so it leaves ocing headroom.

so mobo takes ddr2 800 ram but there are rams out there marked up as 1066 and 1150
which are quicker, slightly slower clock cyles though...

will be buying 4 x 1gb's.

but am thinking if the processors puttin out 1333 on fsb and the rams running at 800 there may be bottlreneck probs, so maybe a higher speed ram'd be better...

any suggestions welcomed.

If the motherboard takes DDR2 800, then that is your only choice of ram to put in it. You can of course try to overclock it (which I don't recommend). You could also look for memory that has lower latency and shorter timings. But that's about it.

If you are trying to build an amazing system with faster ram, you would need to step the board up to a DDR3 board, which at this point the fastest you can get is clocked at 1375 mhz. But then you are talking about paying more than twice as much for memory.You will be very restricted as to what boards you will be able to choose from because you have to find a board that supports that memory and it's still very new technology. Also, of course the board itself is going to be much more expensive.

At this point, the most bang per buck you are going to get is if you stick with a DDR2 800 board. You will have tons of boards to choose from and the memory is nice and cheap right now.

hi the board i'm getting is a evga 680i apparently it will take 1200 sli ram, but only the sli type don't know why...
at at present i've only seen ram 1066 sli no 1200 as yet.

I checked the spec sheet from eVGA for your motherboard and it says support up to 1200mhz, so it should work. If you want to be safe about it, you can contact eVGA and ask them if it does in fact support DDR2 1200. If it does, that link I posted is a few different sticks of DDR2 1200.

As far as it being "SLI memory" I don't know what that means. Any memory should work for SLI boards. That is another question to ask eVGA.
