Default Something has crapped out on my system, but not sure what?!

Hi Everyone,

I built a computer 10 months ago, and have zero problems with it since I put it all together. It has ran perfectly, overclocked to 2.88 GHZ and PRIME95 stable for 8+ hours. Up to now, it has been the most stable and trouble-free machine I have ever owned.

Well, the other day, the power at my house blinked off for just a second. No thunderstom, lightning, or anything like that. My computer was working perfectly just an hour or so before the power blink. Anyways, I go to use the computer shortly afterwards, and of course the power was off. I turn the power on, and nothing happens. I get no mobo beeps or video signal at all. So, I removed the battery and reset the CMOS, still no post, no video signal, no beeps.

I can take the ram out of the computer and the mobo will give me the beep error codes. When I take the video card out, I get no beeps. I have another computer, but unfortuately I can't swap too many parts out to find the problem. My old computer is AGP with a 20 pin PSU and my new computer is PCI Express, and 24 pin PSU. So that means that I can't easily change out the PSU of GPU without buying a new one. Any suggestions on what to do?

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Specs:
Asus P5B Deluxe
480W PSU
Core 2 Duo E6400 Conroe LGA775
2 Gig (2x1 Gig) Patriot DDR2 667
Artic Cooler Freezer7 Pro
XFX Geforece 7800GT
200 GB WD Caviar HD SATA

Two things ....

1. Strip the system back to minimum spec. So that would be mobo, cpu, psu, 1 or 2 sticks of ram (all depending) and your video card. Also unplug all power to the hard drive(s), CD/DVD and floppy drive. Now try and boot that - report back on what does/doesn't happen.

2. What beeps? Are they long, short or a combo and if so in what order? Also what BIOS if you can remember?

Thanks for the suggestion. I already stripped the system down to the minimum, with all dvds and hds unplugged. I even went so far as removing the mobo from the case and tried to boot from the top of a cardboard box, just to make sure nothing was grounding/shorting out. Still nothing. I get no beeps whatsoever on a barebones bootup. However, if I remove the memory, I do get a series of beeps....3 long ones, I think.....which leads me to believe that the Mobo is working....at least somewhat. Also the Asus light powers on on the mobo.

The BIOS was flashed 10 months ago, the same day I built the system. I'm not sure what version it was.

I would just like to quote something you said here: "Anyways, I go to use the computer shortly afterwards, and of course the power was off. I turn the power on, and nothing happens."

If the power isn't on, how are you suppose to the turn the computer on? I'm thinking thats the problem

You could remove the PSU --and have it tested at a local computer-shop if available...
