Default Will this cpu fan work with my CPU?

Gateway Support - 102129 Intel (South Lake) P4 Motherboard R0

That is the type of motherboard I have and this is the type of fan I've bought. Both are LGA775.

Antazone Socket 775478939754Socket-A Copper Heatpipe CPU Cooling Fan AS-C1000 at TigerDirect.com

Should they work with one another and if so, can anyone help walk me through installation to any degree? The fan comes with instructions but my processor doesn't seem have to a place to attach a fan which is odd.

Any help would be awesome.

Hello nmvocals. Welcome to PC Help Forum..

I think the fan will be fine on your processor but you might concider whether you will have enough room in your case for the fan. If cables or other things in the case get in the was you won't get the airflow you need. The steps to mounting the fan means you will need to remove the motherboard. Are you ready to chance that? I think I like the sleek low profile of the Ultra's X-Wind CPU cooler there at Tigerdirect. Just my opinion.

Good Luck!

Thanks for your responses guys. I think my primary concern is that I don't see an area on which to attach the fan at all. I don't see anything over top of the processor or any screws around it or anything. Should there be something there to attach it to already?

Hello again nmvocals,

Is the motherboard still in the case? Have you removed the processor? The biggie that concerns me is the PC still under warranty? You will need to remove the motherboard to get at the back. Also if the processor has the heatsink shown, that will have to be removed. If the motherboard came with the alignment tray you will need to remove that. Any mounting holes/brackets my be difficult to see otherwise. nmvocals, please forgive my ramblings. It is hard to give solid answers without being able to see the full picture. Rest assured I will give it my best..

TTFN

Yes the motherboard is still in the case, and no I have yet to remove the processor. I'm gonna wait to do any of that until I'm absolutely sure that I am willing and able to install this fan. I was just kind of surprised that this newer PC didn't have any type of fan on the processor. I don't see anything like a fix frame on top of the CPU, it's just sitting there uncovered with nothing around it. Maybe I'll make some better observations tommorrow.
