Default [Fixed] CPU Frequency?

Hello.

I've just found this site and it looks as though it is going to be very useful. I'm running Windows xp/home but experimenting with Xubuntu on my second hard drive at the moment. Linux is looking very good but the problem below appears to be 'box' orientated and not OS!

I'm an oldie nearing the free bus pass age but enjoy 'playing' around with this box so help is sometime required when something unusual occurs - like this little clitch below....Cheers.

I have a an AMD 64 bit dual core pc which has been running very well since purchase last April.

However .... today I got a warning about the system being in 'safe mode' during the boot process. It says that (after detecting ide drives):

Warning!! Now System is in safe mode.
Please re-setting CPU frequency in CMOS Setup

Any ideas? Hopefully something simple in CMOS needs editing?

Thanks

Hello DiskRat,

There is normally a load setup defaults option in BIOS which should help you? Otherwise, do you know which motherboard or make and model PC you have?

Hi madmonkey and thanks for the response.

I've tried the default reset option but with no result so far.

Belarc tells me that I have the following:

Board: RS482-M
Bus Clock: 200 megahertz
BIOS: Phoenix Technologies, LTD 6.00 PG 09/05/2005

Means nothing to me but hopefully it gives you a clue.

The actual pc is an Aries Carrera from (dare I say) Watford Electronics' Savastore who have just been wound-up after a take-over.

Thanks

There are a number of issues that can cause this particular error including motherboard or CPU failure. Has there been any new hardware installed recently?

If so, please use your Windows XP CD and perform a repair install.

Otherwise, try changing your motherboard battery. Make sure the one you replace with is below 2.5v. Another possible solution would be a BIOS update: http://download.opendrivers.com/drv/...si/7145v14.zip

^ If you would like me to describe in detail how to do any of the above, please let me know. Flashing the BIOS can be dangourous, so please be sure you are aware of the procedure before doing so.

Hi Again.

No new hardware however upon reflection I think the problem arose after a failed install of Kubuntu although I cannot see that that would upset the box as such.

I'll work through your suggestions and revert (eventually) with the good news - ever optimistic.

BFN.
