Default [Answered] upgraded laptop cpu, now it wont work

i brought a (so he said in the shop) laptop 2.0GHz cpu, i installed it, with out thermal paste for now, becaus i dont have any, and i just wanted to see if it worked as it was a second hand cpu, and my laptop turns on, but nothing boots, not even a bios, whats wrong do i need a new bios or something

Hello linkinworm,

Welcome to PCHF.

Does your laptop beep as normal when you first turn the laptop on? If you have no beeps, this generally means a problem with the CPU. Are you sure this CPU is compatible and working?

there isnt any beep,im not to sure if the cpu actual works because it was preowned,and im not sure if my laptop is compatable with it, how can i tell if it is compatable?

As far as I can tell, the 7086's maximum CPU speed is 1.4. Laptops are not very upgradable in the CPU department linkin.
