Question [Answered] HELP! Want to upgrade to 478 pin 3.4ghz P4 but will my Board support it?

HELP!!!!
I want to upgrade to the fastest processor for my Intel 875PBZLK board but I am confused on determining what the board will support. I have a 2.4ghz 512k cache P4 in it now and since I built it originally. The board specs say it can support 800mhz fsb CPUs but when I look at the intel site @
Intel® Product Comparison Chart
It doesn't list my board as compatible with the processor I want , the 3.4 ghz prescott 800mhz FSB 1MB cache. The same site says my board is compatible with the 3.4 ghz Extreme 478 pin SL7CH 800mhz FSB 2MB Cache?
The reason I ask this is I tried a 3.4ghz 1mb Cache prescott 800mhz fsb in my setup and then my pc wouldn't boot up. My bios is the latest available P32.
Does anyone have the answer I need?
Thanks.

If I remember correctly, the prescott is a 775 socket, and you have a 478, so while the FSB is compatible, the processor won't go into the socket.

Hi and thanks for your reply, I had installed succesfully a 3.4 478 pin 1mb cache Prescott core Pentium 4. It fit just fine and it says that my board supports it @
Intel® Desktop Board D875PBZ Supported Processors
My Board is numbered c26680-204, so it appears from this chart, that my board will only support cpus with a 512k cache up to 3.4ghz....The 3.4 northwood I think. This makes no sense to me, as the information is contradictory in many places I could find. I have already had to return one cpu, the one mentioned above, and i want to be sure the next one I buy will work. I am very frustrated at the moment. Any help is very much appreciated.

I would go with whatever Intel lists as the highest possible processor you can get, while it may contradict other places it's more likely that the manufacturer's website itself is correct as opposed to any other website. The Northwood is what I would purchase.

Thanks for your reply. I found out that my board was not revised enough to support the 1mb cache cpus. I have found an identical board that is an acceptable revision.
Thanks for your help.
