Where did you get this pc from?
This outrageous practice of not providing disks disgusts me.
To me you have two choices, either go back to the shop and demand the disk/s or obtain a brand new version of XP.
I would go with the former and play hell.

For goodness sake Help please don't buy a new pc, if you get fobbed off at the store then just get a new copy of XP and we will show you how to go about installing it.

Hi there, Usually on alot of dell pc's the XP cd installation is on a partition of the hard drive there should be instructions on how to reinstall the windows. Some times it is started by pushing a certain key at boot is there any messages on the screen relatating to this at boot?

Since you don't have to do a reinstall to fix the problem could you borow an xp cd from a friend. Because your not reinstalling windows but just fixing it I don't see any licencing problems. Just an Idea.
