Brought up my other comuter after it had set for about 6+ months. It booted up ok but came up with "Found new hardware" balloon i.e. "ACPI uniprocessor PC". Windows comes up and says it's not XP certified with the GONO GO LOAD option. I went ahead and did the install--wrong thing to do. Computer then would reboot itself just before starting windows. I tried a RESTORE>>THEN A RECOVER, BOTH OF WHICH CLEARED THE REBOOT PROBLEM, but not not the"Found new hardware" balloon along with the windows "Hardware not xp certified..." window.

I click "don't install" and computer appears to run just fine.
Does anyone know a fix?

Note: The best that I can remember-no new software/hardware was loaded prior to me putting aside for this computer. The computer also didn't come with XP disk.

No pun taken--anxiously away his/her assistance!

Hi leobear,

Welcome to PCHF. Sorry for the delay.

Bad News!

Please read: HAL options after Windows XP or Windows Server 2003 Setup

Microsoft's only proper solution to this is to reinstall Windows, but since your PC works fine, apart from the popup message that appears each time you logon to windows?

If so, when the wizard pop's up to install this hardware. Select "Install from Specific Location". Follow the wizard till the end, so that it doesn't picup any devices. At the very end, before you click on finish, you should have a checkbox that says something like "Don't ask again".

Thanks for input. I was hoping that there was some little trick out there. I assume (I hate using that word) that doing a recover (versus loading from CD which wasn't provided) will flag the F6(5) option. If you have any more words of wisdom-don't hesitate to fire away.

Thanks again!
