Default [Answered] Random restarts

I am having a problem with my PC randomly restarting. This doesn't happen much while I'm working but almost always when I'm gameing.

I've run all the virus software with no results so I'm thinking it's a hardware issue. I've updated all my drivers but I can't seem to find where the issue is.

I'm running;
XP sp2
Processor: 2.20 gigahertz AMD Athlon 64
Board: ECS K8T890-A 1.0
Bus Clock: 200 megahertz
BIOS: American Megatrends Inc. 080011 09/28/2005

2048 Megabytes Installed Memory
VisionTek Radeon X1300

Any help would be appreciated.

Hey Dudemellow,

Welcome to The PCHF!!

What you are describing could possibly be a temperature issue.
Check that the fan in the VGA card is clean and running, as they can get very hot, especially while gaming. Also check that your cpu is dust free and running ok. There is an app here that you can download to check basically what your temps are doing. If that doesn't pick up your VGA temp, try teh app here
that might help to pick up the temp.
Also as a test, once it has restarted on you, open the case and have a house fan blowing on the pc and see how it works under load e.g. gaming
Let us know how you get on

Question Running hot

Radar, thanks for the help... I should have known it was a temp issue, but I can't see how.

SpeedFan says me VGA is on fire, all other temps are within norms and I have the two intake fans in the front and four blowout fans (three in back, one on top).
I don't get why I'm running so hot. Taking the side panel off of the case did help to bring down the temp, but I don't want to run like that and I can't really afford a water cooling kit right now.

Suggestions?

Hi Dudemellow,

Unfortunately the only way that I have managed to get the problem sorted out (had one on Thursday) is to reapply the thermal paste to the vga card. This is a fairly technical job and you do have to be VERY careful if attempting it.
I personally would contact your supplier and get them to replace it if possible.
If not you could redo the thermal paste on the vga card but this would be my last resort.
Let us know how you want to go on

You have an X1300, so you should be able to control your fan speed.
I recommend you download ATITool and install it. Run it, click on settings.
From the drop-down menu, select Fan Control. Then change it so that is runs at 100% all the time. It will be a bit loud, but with this enabled, put your computer under stress. If it doesn't restart, then temperatures are your problem.
..unless your X1300 has no fan, only a passive heatsink?

I thank everyone for the responses.
I have the fans running at %100 all the time and have a house fan blowing on it... I haven't had any problems the past few days and everything is running real cool except for the VGA so that's my problem. I'm going to try to get it replaced one way or another.

I think this thread can be closed. Thanks again all.
