Question computer power problem

i took my computer , turned it off it complete working form, stroed it for a year and then lately i pulled it out, cut it on and for about 20 seconds it stays on i can access files and works fine an d then it cuts off and stays off. i called a few people and they said it sounds like the sync card and it may need cleaning or a new one. i understand the sync card tells the computer how hot its getting and shuts down after it receaches a certain temp. ive been quoted prices 200 + for fixing. but i was wondering cna some one give me some install help or a problem fixing on all of this. does it sound like the sync? i couldnt tell you i jsut want it fixed. someone help!

Hi eli3247,

Welcome to pchf.

Yes, this is true, but after 20 seconds? Possibly more like the CPU. You can download speedfan which gives you the temperatures of all your sensors, but some find this a little confusing. I've also included Everest which can check the temperature of the CPU itself. If you give me the PC Specs, I can tell you what those maximum temperatures should be.

SpeedFan - Access temperature sensor in your computer
