Default Did my CPU fry!?

hi,
im building a new computer, i just got my parts yesterday and i was so excited but that was shortlived. i assembled my computer like the last few i
had built in my time and everything was going good. when i thought i was about done i thought i'd test to see if would even start. i hit the power button and i got nothing. I kept trying over and over switching things around to get it to work and i finally realized the POWER SW connector was in wrong. I was so happy i found the problem. I plugged it in and went for the power button. After i hit the button all the lights went on like a christmas tree and then.....
tragedy struck. the computer let out a burning battery like smell and filled the room and automatically shutoff after a good 1 second. I was so worried cause i just spent half my bank account on this computer. It still turns on but now the monitor doesnt show anything it just says no signal. I tried several different monitors and none of them work ill try and upload some pictures of the computer maybe somebody can spot something out that i plugged in wrong.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Xpertkirby,

You've most likely god a dead PSU to be honest. The CPU should be fine - and you would have seen smoke coming out of the fan if it was the CPU.

I'd suggest getting a new PSU - you should be able to get it on warranty if it's a new one, as it was DOA (dead on arrival)

The PSU seems to work for me because the LED lights all light up, the fans all go on the heatsink, video card, power supply and the 2 80mm fans work too. Also i just realized that the SATA port on the back of the hard drive is broken. Must i replace this?

Hrmm...

Well to be honest, all the fans and LED's use very minimal power and can still operate with a blown power supply.

I'd suggest smelling the back of the computer to see if you can smell the battery burning smell again.

How do you mean broken?

I went to my computer and took a big whiff. It was suprising i could still smell that same smell through my stuffed up nose. So do you think i should return the power supply? i do have a lifetime warranty on it. does that mean my lifetime or the average lifetime of everybody. Well the SATA connecter is kinda snapped off. some metal pieces are in the chord part and some are in the back of the hard
drive part.
