Question [Answered] CPU upgrade

Hello all,

I just installed a new P4 2.4GHz socket 478 into my Dell Inspiron 1100. When I went into bios it reads as 1.6GHz and Windows shows the processor as 2.4 but running at 1.6 and I8Kfangui shows it as never going faster than 1.6. What is the problem? Thanks in advance.

Hi Digi, welcome tot he PCHF

I think you'll find that it's only going to pick up to 2.4ghz if your computer will actually need it...it's an idea that has been in action for quite some time now...on a bid from CPU manufacturors to save power usage...the CPU's will automatically detect what kind of strain is going on with the computer and adjust the speeds automatically.

I suggest playing a game or 2 and checking out the graphs again.
