Default How do I open BIOS on this thing????

I have an IBM ThinkPad 2645 w/ Pentium II.....due to some registry issues and being secondhand, i tried reformatting (and did) with windows 2000 pro disc.....the full setup will not complete due to bios reporting a faulty component (most likely the battery as it is dead) {blue-screen fatal exception message} obviously i don't want to waste my time contacting vendors or IBM....as i've played that game and wasted much time before on similar projects....i'm sure they will offer no viable solution that doesn't cost a fortune.....so.................................... ......

how do i open BIOS and once i do, is there some way to disable the diagnostic agent for the battery, so that i may resume setup?

Default i'm an ***

yeah i typed bios but meant dos, so the question is:

How do I get the DOS command prompt up on an IBM ThinkPad 2645? And once in, how may I disable the fault detection on the dead battery?
