Default fan making noise

HI again all,
Ok, new problem. Sony Vaio Pentium 4, CPU 3.20 GB, fan is making a scraping noise, feels warm, I did download SpeedFan Results as follows:

Fan 1: 1748 RPM Temp 1: 37C
Fan 2: 1962 RPM Temp 2: 52C
Fan 3: 1288 RPM Temp 3: 38C
HDO: 44C

I also cleaned the inside of the case for dust. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Is it a high pitch sound? or an old cranky sound??

If it is cranky it can be just alod of dust in the fan

I guess it's on the high pitch side. I did blow all the dust out of the case, but I didn't take the fan apart.

Which fan is it? The cpu fan or another case fan?

As the cpu is pretty hot 52c...
Are you sure it is the fan ? Could be the hard drive seeing you say it makes a scrapping niose. Hard drives make that sound when reading and writing data.

Ok, now I'm not sure! I don't really know which fan it is, I believe it is the CPU, which is on the top of the case in the back. It could be the hard drive as well, but, how would I tell? Sorry - not the sharpest tool in the shed when it comes to the insides of a computer. Thanks for the reply. Rebbie

The Sony Vaio's are laptops i believe, so a temp of 30-50 is quite acceptable.

It sounds just like a noisy fan, which generally means one of it's ball bearings has decided not to work as well as it should.

I'd suggest taking your laptop to a Certified Sony Repairer and getting the fan replaced now while you can still hear it.

If it stops - you won't know if it's stopped making the noise...or stopped working.
