Default Processor not at proper speed

Hello everyone, i'm really hoping that someone could help me out here, because i have been messing around my computer for like a week now....
This might get a little long, but im just trying to give full detail.

My computer had been freezing a lot, because the motherboard was overheating, so i just left the case open and put a fan blowing at it. Then I decided to buy a 512 stick of ram, and a new 256 MB graphics card. I installed the ram and the card on the board, but then thats when problems started. Nothing would appear on monitor and i would get continuous beeps about 5 seconds apart. It appeared that my motherboard was done for, so i went to the store and picked up a new motherboard, with the propper socket (Socket A) compatible with my processor (AMD Athelon XP) with a 133 bus. When I checked the settings of my computer after the motherboard had been installed it said that it only had 1.25 ghz, when my processor is AMD Athlon(B) XP 2800+ 2.08 GHz. I then thought i needed a faster FSB. so i got like a 133/300 bus motherboard, installed it properly, and checked again. still no luck still 1.25 ghz. Any help would be great.. i really need it
thanks

hello coolace and welcome to pchf we have a great team of techs here that will help you with your pc problems

i had a similar problem with my processor it's a sempron 3200+ and i figured out that it decreases the speed when it doesn't need it i don't know if that's the problem with yours try opening programs and see if the speed goes up

looking forward to your reply

i doubt that openning programs would have anything to do with it. i check in System, and it should show the max speed, and not the speed that your using, just like how it says 1.00 gb of ram and not 800 or something.

and yeah, i have been looking around this site looks like a lot of helpful people

Hi Coolace, unfortunatly genie is incorrect in your case. Your CPU is based on older technology and doesn't have the power saving techniques of the newer 64 bit based AMD chips. What is the brand/model of your motherboard?

This issue will be solved with simple frequency changes and even possibly just a BIOS upgrade.

Well, that's what we're here for Coolace - to try and help.

This motherboard is a MSI KT880 Delta motherboard, which is good - MSI have a great support for the motherboards.

Below is a link to download your BIOS updates. Please follow the instructions exactly on the website . Updating the BIOS - however beneficial, can result in a dead motherboard (worst case). This is the first step, once this step is taken - if the CPU isn't recognised correctly still, then we enter the BIOS and change the clock speeds and frequencies which is safe to do, as long as you know the specs of your CPU and I used to have one of those CPU's so I do
