anyway, I've just got all the parts to build a pc, I've installed basically everything and when it comes to turning it on, nothing happens, the motherboard has an led light showing it's getting power.

the pc has

Thermaltake XaserV WinGo V7000C Blue Chassis

ASUS A8N-SLI Premium Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 SLI ATX AMD Motherboard

eVGA 256-P2-N527-AX Geforce 7800GTX 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 VIVO PCI Express x16 Video Card

Antec TruePower 2.0 TP2-550 EPS12V ATX12V 550W Power Supply 115/230 V UL, TUV, CB, FCC CLASS B, CUL

AMD Athlon 64 3700+ San Diego 1GHz HT 1MB L2 Cache Socket 939 Processor

CORSAIR XMS 2GB (2 x 1GB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM Unbuffered DDR 400 (PC 3200) Dual Channel Kit System Memory

Seagate Barracuda 7200.9 ST3250824AS 250GB 7200 RPM 8MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive

Acer AL1716BBD Black 17" 8ms LCD Monitor 300 cd/m2 700:1 0.264mm Pixel Pitch

NEC Black 16X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 8X DVD+R DL 16X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-R 32X CD-RW 48X CD-ROM 2M Cache IDE/ATAPI 16X DVD?R DVD Burner

my first assumption was the psu not having a 4 pin 12 v wire, I just have a 4 pin one, and the 24 pin cords to plug into the motherboard, is that the case? hoping a new power supply will solve this. didn't answer my own question at all did I? are there adapters at all to get a 4 pin 12 v wire? my attempt at searching came up short. any advice would be wonderful and appreciated. thanks.

hi laheusho, and welcome to PCHF!

Have you tried starting up the pc 'clean', with only the necesary, basic stuff.
So with only the videocard and the cpu and ram?? That way, you can rule out any other hardware defects, sometimes, if for example only the cd-rom drive doesnt work, the whole pc doesn't wants to start up.

Please try this, and post any progress, so our hardware experts can check out the problem. Im sure they'll take a look at it as soon as possible!!

Greetz,

RubenTC

Hya Laheusho.

Im not following you , does it have a 4 pin square connector on the psu or not?
And if oyu do have it , which im pretty sure of , did you connect it to the motherboard?

And it looks like you also need to connect a flat 4 pin 12v connector next to the upper pci-e slot.
