Default Upgrade Processor

Im currently running an AMD athlon 64 3700+ and I want to upgrde to an Athlon XP 2000+ Now this is my first time with AMD as Im usually using pentium and as I know depending on teh type ofmotherboard you have the processor wont fit or be compatable. So my question is will that be teh case when i get the new XP i want to upgrade too? Or how would i find out what kinda of motherboard I have to determine if the XP would Indeed foit and or not burn the motherboard out?

Also i need a directx compatible 64mb 3d hardware accelerator video card Im currently running a ati radeon xpress 200 series would that qualify as teh type of card I need and if not what would be the best (and possibly cheapest) however 64mb is you ask me is a bit old any 128 or 256MB 100% directx compatible3d accelorator video cards out there and if so what would you recommend also if possible can you give me a link to a site that ha sit and prices?

Thank you

Hya AJ.

At first i thought you just typed it the wrong way around , but later on you mention a second time that the upgrade wil be the XP.

That wouldn't be an upgrade but an more then 50% downgrade.. Or am i reading it wrong?

And for the video card , what would be the max you want to spend on it?
Also about al cards are directx compatible , what you probebly are looking for is directx 8 , or 9 , 100% compatible.

so youre saying athlon 74 is better than athlon xp? thats odd because it seems that xp costs more than 64 oh and you were right its 100% directx 9.0c compatible as for how much im willing to sepnt id say about 100-200. I got quake 4 and it wont run i figured it was the processor being too low because if the minimum grapphics requirement are 64mb 3d hardware acellorator heck 64mb graphics are kinda out dated Im sure 90% of all computers come stock with graphics card at least that "good" or better heck 128mb at least id think

Yup , an 64 is much better then an XP. Like i said , in this case the 64 3700+ is more then twice as fast as the XP 2000+.

And for the prices , an 64 3700+ wil cost abit over $200 , and an XP 2000+ way less then a hundered.

And im sure the x200 vga is the problem with games like Quake 4. But with max $200 for a video card and a 64 3700+ that should be fixed in no time.

But first , what is the brand and model of youre motherboard? And also how much ram do you have in there?

Yes, there are several programs for this, you could use:
Belarc
Could you copy and paste what is says under Main Circuit Board.
