Default picking the right cpu

i just need some help picking the right processor for me

i'm currently using a p4 2.53 ghz processor but it isn't pumping enough power i think for current games coming out. at the least i would update my mobo and get some high speed ram, but that's another story

i was looking to get an athlon and possibly a 64. i noticed that there is 3 generations now though... the original 64, a 64 FX, and a 64 X2. are the differences between these different gens noticeable and significant?

also, would i just be better off getting the fastest athlon xp 32-bit i can find being the fastest 64 i can find is 2.4 ghz? i will only use the pc for gaming.

just wondering what you guys think.

edit....just noticed how pricey the FX and X2 are...lol

guess i'm just wondering if i should go 64-big 2.4 ghz or go athlon xp and get the fastest i can find for pc gaming? (i'm not loaded with money, lol)

Dex

well you can always overclock your pc hardware to pump much more power to run your demanding games. Other than its up to you how powerful you want your pc.

Hi there,

True, you can always overclock your cpu a bit, but it wont give you much more power...

If you're looking to buy a new cpu, I would recommend buying an AMD64, AMD does not produces XP anymore, and for the future, having a 64bit cpu is just a very good thing

To make sure you dont want to buy a new cpu again in a few months, Id pay some more, and go for the 64 right away.

Also, amd 64 is much more faster, the fastest AMD XP is 3000+ I think, wich is comparable to P4 3Ghz, so thats not a big step forward.

Hope I helped you a bit,

Greetz,

RubenTC

yeah, thanks a ton man. i was thinking this

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...828854&CatId=0

or maybe a step down to the 3100 or 3000

only problem i'm seeing now is that the mobo doesn't have agp...i would have to go pci express (not a bad thing, just don't have all that much money, lol)

i was thinking the geforce 6800??? or the radeon x800 now that the price has dropped after 2 years or so...

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...535691&CatId=0

think that's an alright setup?

Yeah, the mobo and cpu seem fine, you can go a step downwards yes. As a new graphics card, both the x800 and the 6800 are pretty good. The x800 is faster and better quality, but also a bit more expensive. Preferable is XFX, and Geforce at the moment. But the x800 is a fine card in this price-range.

Please post any progress, or questions...

Greetz,

RubenTC
