Default [Answered] Pentium M vs. Pentium 4

Hey there,
I am interested in purchasing a new laptop to replace my current desktop. I currently have a 2.8 Pentium 4 Processor, and the new laptop that I'm interested in is a 2.13 Pentium M. How does the speed of these 2 compare? Is there a noticible difference?
Thanks a ton,
Connor707

Thumbs up

Hi,

The P4 is faster and better for performance esp. as it's a desktop.
The Pentium M is designed to be more portable, smaller and the battery lasts longer without the CPU getting really hot and it has SpeedStep Technology to allow the power consumption to go up and down to save the battery.

The laptop will be slower than the PC, but how you notice it will depend on what you're doing with it. Eg. playing hi res games will reveal the biggest difference, (although this will largley be due to the graphics card)

Performance - P4
Portability - Pentium M

Hope that helps
