Default [Fixed] When I try to boot the computer, it dies after 1 or 2 seconds!

Hello, new to the forum.

When I start up my PC (press the power button) it dies after 1 or 2 seconds (as the title indicates  ). Anyhow, there are no beeps, or anything like that, and the fans (all of them) spin during the 1 to 2 second time period.

I am not surprised by this, because my computer recently contracted, or so I was told, a virus that prevented me from getting on to the internet. Nice, huh?

I tried installing antivirus to take care of the thing, tried messing with some files, and now I am stuck here. Before this happened (roughly 3 or 4 days ago) my computer was working perfectly.

Stats:
AMD Athlon 3200+
MSI K8n Neo2 motherboard
ATI X700 Pro graphics card
yada, yada, yada

If anyone can help, you are 1) a genius and 2) a very nice person.

Hi Dilznak,

Welcome to the PChelp Forum!

We have a great team of tech-heads here who are both number 1 and 2.

Are you using an onboard network card or is it an Expansion card (removable)? Have you changed any BIOS settings?

Do you get some sort of error before your pc goes out or does it just shut off/restart?

We'll get to the bottom of this.

Hey double A,

The network card is on board. I have not messed with any BIOS settings, although I was told to take out and re-insert the BIOS clock battery, which I did. Hope I didnt make matters worse.

Anyway, when I turn on the computer, there arent any messages or sounds, it just turns on and runs the fans for 1 second and then dies.

Thanks for your help.

That doesn't sound like a virus/software issue to me , it dies to fast for that. It sounds more like a dead proc or motherboard im afraid.

Can you still get in youre bios?

And try to boot up with all unneeded hardware and network removed/disconnected and see what happends then.

Wow that's pretty crazy.

No taking the battery out and inserting it should only reset your BIOS settings to default. This sounds like a doozie.

Do you have a spare power source to try. It sounds like you have a hardware problem mayby you jarred a connection loose when you removed the CMOS battery. Did this problem start happening before or after you did the battery thing?

The problem started before I messed with anything. After I figured that I had a virus (couldnt access internet) and I couldnt zap it with Norton, I figured that I would just wipe out the computer and reload the OS, etc.

So I brought the computer to my office this morning, and that is when it happened. I didnt drop it on the way, or anything like that.

I thought that it might be the power supply, but a friend of mine told me if it was the power supply that fans wouldnt spin at all...

Joe - I can't get into BIOS. It just dies 1.3 seconds after boot.
