Do you have any pci cards in there? Like a soundcard or network card ect. you could remove those if you have them.

And how many strips of ram do you have? If more then one , try one at a time , or even try it with no ram at all and see what happends.

Try turning it on with even the mouse and keyboard removed and see what it does then.

Joe,

I tried it with nothing but the hard drive, motherboard, power supply, and processor. Nothing. Still the fans buzz for 1 second, then nothing.

Is it possible that the power supply is blown? It is probably a little bit weak (350 watts) for what I have.

Is it possible that something else has shorted? I read somewhere that sometimes the power button can cause problems similar to this. Problem is that I dont know how to check for that or fix it.

Thanks.

The power button is a little possibility. It has 2 functions, turning on, and turning off, and if it keep making contact is turns your pc on, and few seconds later off. I'm afraid it's not that easy to try another Power Switch though.

Thanks Bluefish. Maybe I could try testing the power supply separately, if there is some way to do this.

Still though, I can't help but think that the power switch, if it is shorting, might be affecting the situation. After all, I am only powering up by the switch on the back, not the actual power switch. When I turn on the switch on the back of the PC, it then turns on for 1 second.

Anyway, thanks for the help and any future suggestions you might have.

Did the connections for the powerbutton came loose at some point? But it really sounds more like a processor or motherboard problem to me.
