Default PC powers off immediately

Hi,
not sure if this is correct sub-forum but couldn't fit issue in other ones.

When I power on I get a flash of the HDD light & the graphics card led flashes & the CPU fan spins for a sec then it all powers off.

I have taken off all components (except CPU & Mem) from the m/b & retried but still does it. I have changed the PSU for a known good one & still same problem.

I feel it's the m/b causing the PSU to trip out. Is there any way of testing this? Could it be the processor?

Unless I get something from you chaps I will try changing the m/b as it's the cheapest component.

Any advice appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Regards (& Merry Xmas)

Hi mikey and welcome to PCHF,
Most likely either your mobo or cpu is defective. The only way to find out is by going to a computerstore and let them test the equipment. When you've just bought the mobo and/or cpu you might be able to get a new one for free since it's most likely a defective unit/production problem

Default What I thought...

Thanks - confirmed my thoughts.

Bought the m/b & CPU just over 12 months ago - Damn!
Oh well - hope it's the m/b as that's only ?25.

Thanks for your help & quick reply.

Mike

Darn just over 12 months...
It's a good idea to let someone, preferably a computerstore/pro test both your mobo and cpu since a bad cpu can destroy a new mobo and vice versa.
