Processor/CPU - Simple question.... posted in the Hardware forums; Well if i get windows xp can i just install it instead of 98 after i format it? how do i check the boot up order?...

When you start the PC you should see (usually at the bottom of the screen) a button to push to go into the bios. Hit that button and when in the bios, look for boot order it should say HDD first.

:smiley: Sure, NP, it's much easier to reformat and reinstall with XP. Actually, I would recommend following the instructions for XP Install in my signature. It really keeps XP singing.

To change your boot order, which won't be relevant if you are installing XP, you enter BIOS, which means that you will need to tap on the key your MOBO recognizes, for me it is F10, sometimes it is Esc, or another, if you don't know the key, post back the MOBO specs and we can tell you what it is. Navigate to the section in your BIOS that deals with Boot Order, and make the necessary changes.

Also when youre in the bios , check if the HD is detected as "pimary master" and the cd as "secundary master" , also look if youre floppydrive is detected.

I have a feeling that the cables arent connected right..
