Default doubts? Celeron/Centrino/Pentium M? DDR/DDR2?

Dear forumers... i m looking for a decent laptop for home use.. but am really confused with so many different types of IT-savvy terms.. would then like to ask a few general questions...

(1) Soooo many different types of CPU in the market.. just which are better? I can see that Celeron chips seem mucccch cheaper than Centrino and Pentium M. Does it mean that the speed is really muccch slower also???? which are D-Best?

(2) DDR and DDR2. So, DDR2 is the latest version izit? But will a 512mb DDR works faster than 256mb DDR2?

(3) finally, performance-wise, can i compensate the "supposingly slower" celeron with higher RAM? Say, 512mb or 1gb RAM?? as compare to those more "superior" CPU with 256mb or 512mb??

appreciate very much for the feedbacks from the GURUsssss

Welcome to PC Help Forum PC layman

1) This comparison tool will give you a great insight into how different CPU's compare: http://www23.tomshardware.com/

2) You will need to have a compatible motherboard to run DDR2 RAM. Read this to compare the two.

3) The type of processor that you buy is directly dependent on the type of use you need it for. Example: Gaming: if you need to play todays games in a slick environment with little or no lag then you will need to consider a P4 or AMD64 or high end XP chip - not Celeron or Sempron....

What is the purpose of the PC?
What is your budget?
