Excuse my ignorance but what is the difference between a 3.0Ghz Pentium celeron and a 3.0Ghz pentium 4?

Well the price, and the front side bus, they wont work at the same speed. The celeron has a 533 bus as the p$ has a 800 bus. and different nanometers and onboard cache. but the new celeron D cpu's are descent..

Ok here are the spec's for the celeron
Model: Intel Celeron D 345J
Core: Prescott
Operating Frequency: 3.0GHz
FSB: 533MHz
Cache: L1/ 64k + 64K; L2/256K

And now for the P4:

Model: Intel Pentium 4
Core: Prescott
Operating Frequency: 3.0 GHz
FSB: 800MHz
Cache: L1/12K+16K; L2/1MB

See the front side bus or FSB. the celreon works at 533mhz as the P4 works at 800mhz. And the P4 also has more onchip cache, which makes it quicker..
