Hi

spellbyte: Well, sort of. I didn't open up the psu to take the entire power lead out, but it was the last segment that burnt so I cut it off before the second and used some electrical insulating tape to secure the ends. Not the best practice, I'm sure, but safe and simple. Should I open up the PSU and take it out at the base?

merlin: I've gotta go to work today, but tmrw I will try out your suggestion. I'm also gonna reapply the thermal paste to the cpu cos I'm nervous there isn't enough.

Cheers,

Helen

only open up the psu if your confident in what your actually doing, if not then i would strongly reccomend buying a new PSU, probably not higly important right at this moment but in the long run in might pay off

Hi ,
I suspect that you did not have enough cooling mechanism in your pc. If the cpu is not cooled in anyway, it will self distruct in a matter of hours. Secondly, there might have been a short circuit in your psu, which i will personally not advise you to open as it can cause a nasty shock(unless if you are in to electronics and discharge the capacitors before you try your luck).

If your system board detects that your cpc fan isn't turning at the right spped, it will power down, so please check your documentations. ::idea::
