Default [ResolvedWhat can I do with a socket 1 Motherboard? Can I upgrade beyond my PIII 550?

Hi there...

I seem to be at an impass... I've been wanting to knock my CPU up a little, because my PIII 550mhz is bunk, but I discovered yesterday that I don't have a slot 370 motherboard... and all I can seem to find are slot 370 CPUs.

Is there any other option than upgrading the motherboard? That's a little too much for me... are there socket 1 to slot 370 converters/adaptors? Will I be able to find a socket 1 processor with more juice? (Just looking for 1.2gigs or something...)

Is a new motherboard worth it? How much work is that? It seems daunting...

Any advice would be great!

Thanks,

El.

Here is a 1gh p3 I would not waste my time with the adapters, there very unpredictable. A 1gz p3 is a very good chip. In today's terms with the p4 it would equivalent to a p4 1.8 ghz cpu

Edit Guess it would help giving you the link hu :-D

Thanks - that converter info is good... now I just need to find one...

That site with the 1 ghz cpu.. well, that looks like a socket 370 processor to me.... which would be my point!

I need a socket 1, or a socket 1 converter... but tracking those down seems tricky.

I haven't even been able to find a socket 1 that's close to my already 550 mhz, let alone anything above that.

Maybe I just need a new computer... :-)

First, can anyone lend me a couple thousand bucks? :knowing:
