Default [Answered] pcu and main board temperature

Hi,
Im using a program called Hardware sensors monitor thats reporting my mainboard temp as over 80 degrees C ! and my CPU as 67C, i have had a few problems with it restarting randomly occasionally and when i start the computer one of the fans can sometimes really whir very noisily for the first few minutes, so i think its come off its hinges or something. Ive opened the case and all the fans seem to be running, but also the program records that one of the fans is running at 0rpm which cant be right either. :-(

Welcome to PCHF

The motherboard temp does seem high, although with that program you may have selected the wrong temperature sensor to monitor. Usually the motherboard will be between 25-35 deg and your CPU, if it's cooled correctly shouldn't really go above 55 deg. Run your PC with the case off for a while to see if that brings the temps down.

You should check that your CPU heatsink and fan are seated correctly and if you are happy that they are, maybe you want to consider changing up to a more powerful/effective heatsink and fan.

Well i wasn't entirely sure it was the right sensor either. Ive used two programs now though, one recorded two temps of around 80 and 65C, as well as the other recorded an additional two (including those two) of 42 and 27C (

one of the programs indicated that the two highest temps were the mobo and CPU. I don't know how much effect the fans have on cooling the mobo and certainly not the CPU, and the metal on the heatsink is very hot indeed. Would getting new case fans actually have any affect on cooling these? Ive left the case off for a bit and there's no difference really.

Case fans have a great effect on overall cooling of your PC - the quicker the hot air is expelled and cool fresh air is sucked in, the lower your CPU and Mobo temps will be in the long term.

Sounds like you may have an issue with your CPU heatsink tho. If it's getting THAT hot you really need to upgrade it!

Taking the case off knocked off about 10C
