Question Connecting printer to netbook through USB

I have a desktop that is connected to the printer via USB hub. works just fine, no problems. If i take the printer USB cable that is attached to USB hub and instead plug it into netbook, i can print, but i would like to be able to print from both the desktop and netbook without disconnecting it from the hub.
I have purchased extra USB MM cables, but if i connect USB hub to the netbook, i get the message on the netbook that printer is offline (not true), the desktop prints just fine, clearly it is not affected, but somehow the netbook does not see the printer.
Question: what do i need to do to make the netbook print with my setup? what am i missing?

As far as I know, you can't do that with just a usb hub. You can get a usb A/B switch that will do what you want, or if your 2 computers are networked you can set it up as a network printer.

When Xeno says "network printer", that means you can SHARE the printer from your desktop. The downside to this is that the desktop will have to be on and functioning/accessible to the netbook when you wish to print.

Further instructions can be provided if you desire, e
