Default [Answered] Printers?!?

Im looking to buy a decent inkjet printer and a colour laser printer. Something that is cheap to run and quick on both accounts. An inkjet I have been looking at is an HP DESKJET 6940. As for a colour laser im not entirely sure about. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Many Thanks

Hi Phil, The Deskjet 6940 is an excellent choice.

As for the colour laser printer, I would personally recommend the Dell 3000 range (3110cn I believe is their current model). I don't normally recommend Dell for printers as they pritty much aquire their range from Lexmark, and not a big fan of Lexmark myself. However, this particular printer is fast and very reliable. Consumables are easy to change from a user perspective, (although not the cheapest to buy), even the fuser unit could even be changed by the user, it's that easy! The printer has a range of diagnostic tools onboard to help you identify any problems, and of course you always have Dell support to fall back on which is good too!

Yeah looks like a good one, do you know of anything around similar with cheaper toners?

Not one that I've personally tested or used! Or at least, not in the same league or price range. You could buy something like a Canon LBP-5000... an ugly printer, not really intended if you plan to use the printer commerically, and is not even half as fast, but the toner cartridges are about half the price, and so in the printer. That's also the only downfall of the HP printers too, but doesn't stop me having one on my desk! From my perspective, I would rather pay the extra for quality, than to have a printer that has print heads onboard the printer (as apposed to the cartridge), so that whenever the printer isn't used for a while, the ink becomes congealed, and then you have a nightmare getting the heads cleaned out. If you decide to buy a Dell, try not to buy the cartridges individually, you can often save money in the long run by purchasing the toner bundles.

I guess it would have to be a decent printer. It will get used in an IT suite for a primary school. Something thats relatively quick but as cheap to run as possible. Though it may not be. Only really A4 documents will need to be printed on it.

Thanks

Yeah, another good printer, nobody would ever think to steal that one from an IT suite, it's a monster!

In that case I would definately go for the Dell, specifically the 3110cn. The cartridges may not be the cheapest, but you do get more pages for your money, and like I said before, look out for the deals with toner bundles to save money.
