Many thanks again pc help forum
Thought i'd check my cam right away and that lead on ebay is the exact one i need, 4 pin. The number is correct and connection looks right so i can only assume it is the right one. If however it's the wrong one i will send it back and take it to a camcorder shop because i've bought 2 leads now and had to return them both as were wrong ones.. always good to do research before hand

Cheers, Harrison.

Hello all.

Another problem has come up. I have downloaded and installed the required device drivers and software for my camcorder and now have the correct lead (imported from Hong Kong) so I can get it working.
Unfortunatly i am plugging in the camcorder to the computer, turning it on, I load up the software and it doesn't detect it, any ideas?
This camcorder is a DV type, the one that holds the mini dv tapes.

Thanks.

-- More info --

The computer is detecting the USB connection but is not finding the correct drivers, even though i have installed them, the camcorder doesn't seem to be detected.

Try a manual install of the drivers. Connect your camera up as you would if you were going to use it.

Then go to Start > Control Panel > System > Hardware Tab > Device Manager

Then look for a yellow exclamation mark which should be around the USB devices area. Right click it and choose Update Driver...

Choose Manual Install (Advanced)

Browse For a Location...

And Browse to the folder where the drivers were extracted to and select the appropriate .inf file. If there are several .inf files then you may want to try them all.

You may need to try other drivers also. I recommend a Manual install and even trying Windows Update (choose the option to Check Windows Update instead of the advanced option)

You may need to browse to a folder on the CD btw if you don't have the drivers downloaded onto the hard drive.

Hello thanks for the help.

There is no exclamation mark next to any of the USB connections. I have taken a print screen of what it looks like. What should i do now?

The highlight is not to highlight which one it is, just happened to be me clicking on it.

I do not have an installation disc as i download the software and drivers from the camcorders website.

Many thanks.

Okay so are you connecting the camera up with a Firewire to USB cable?

It looks like the problem device is the 'Unknown Device'

Right click that and choose Update Driver.

When you browse for a folder, browse to wherever you extracted the .zip files to.

Or if the driver came in a .exe make a note of where they were extracted to. Usually its C:\Manufacturer's Name

Right clicking it and choosing Uninstall Drivers

And then clicking Action > Scan For Hardware Changes

could also fix it but your best bet is a manual install of the drivers. Double check that they are the correct drivers and that they are certified for your Operating System.
