When I try and install the device hardware the computer recognises that the receiver is in the usb port but says that there is a problem with installing the hardware and that the device may not work properly. Any ideas on what the problem could be and how to install the hardware?

Welcome back to PCHF

In the first instance I suggest refresh the USB ports

Assuming XP

Next step is to goto the Control Panel, System, Hardware, Device Manager,

there you will see at the bottom

USB System Controllers

expand the list (by clicking on the + sign.)

Delete/Uninstall each item.

Reboot

The PC will refresh its "knowledge" of the USB ports.

is it possible that the devices you bought are not compatible with your operating system ? if your on vista some hardwar is not compatible i would check the manufactures site to make sure that there is not a driver upgrade for it
