Default Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer 2.0 and games

I have an intellimouse explorer 2.0 and have had it for years and love it. There is a problem, however. With the intellimouse software installed, I cannot assign the large and small side buttons and the middle mouse buttons to any functions in games. The left and right buttons both work fine, but none of the other buttons do. If I un-install the Intellimouse software, then all of the buttons will work, however I'll lose some of the functionality of the mouse in windows (such as assigning the aforementioned buttons to functions in Windows, changing the scroll speed, etc.).

Is there a way to get these buttons to work with the software installed? I've tried disabling them from having any functions in the software but that doesn't seem to help. I'm running this with Windows XP Home Edition XP3.

Hello browncoat, sorry for the delay on this one, however, this is one I'm afraid we cannot help you with I'm afraid, and here is why...

When the software is installed, it takes control of these buttons/features, and handles them. Games will not pickup these buttons because any clicks that are done are intercepted by software. Once these clicks have been intercepted, there is nothing left for these games to pickup. Hope this makes sense?
