Smile [Answered] usb female socket to ethernet plug ?

i need to connect an old computer to the internet, it only has USB 1.1, the "customers" modem has a USB plug for connecting to the computer, when this is plugged in the computer it crashes, the computer already has an ethernet card this works fine for me (at my house !), so i have been trying to find an adapter (or gender changer) with a female USB plug on one end (for plugging the modem into) with a plug on the other for plugging into the Network Ethernet card, IS THERE SUCH A BEAST AVAILABLE ? please

I think he wants the opposite of what you guys have posted, basically something that turns the Ethernet port into a USB port, I'm fairly sure no such device exists but you never know, there's a device that turns a parallel port into a USB port...

It can be done-- but if you are plugging into an ethernet connection, USB 1.1 transfer rate is only 1.5 MB/sec-- it won't be a speed demon.
Better'n dialup though. Of course the speed and amount of RAM will matter too.
When we first got hi-speed net around here-- I had an old PC-- which could just barely creep on.... there was actually a minimum limit--It was an old HP running a whopping 48MB of RAM and Windows '95--It landed in the recycler pile inside of a week. Took several minutes just to load the home page.
