You should get that checked out at a shop.... one thing I know of is laptop batteries shorting out and causing nasty fires...
this one was staged-- but there have been real ones. They burn at over 1000 Deg F once they get going

one like this occurred at a Japanese business-meeting... you know boardroom/CEO/Many other execs about 2 years ago-- a Sony i believe

The boss was not impressed

Hey Gandolf,

The odor went away about three days after operating on my Laptop. I did take it apart again to check for leaking electrolytes and such and found nothing. It was really *******' odd...
I did manage to ruin a cable ribbon that I believe is the onboard mouse connection. At any rate my keyboard doesn't work and ASUS Support only recognizes the one that connects from the keypad itself. I have not been able to find a replacement even though I have the manufacturer info. Evidently, they just produced it especially for awhile. Not sure what to do about that at this time.
So, since then I've been using an external keyboard.
Thanks a lot for following up with me.
