Hi thanks for the reply.

I have gone to device manager and went on "computer" and did "scan for hardware changes". Nothing happend here and still i can not see anywhere CD/DVD?

Also on bios there is no option there at all , i.e advance features etc. All i can see on bios is as what i have placed on the 1st thread.

With ref to opening , i would have but because this is a laptop , i dont know what i am doing.

What else can i do. thank you

OHHHH,sorry it is a laptop.Well is it still under warranty? If it is I would take it to were you bought it and have it repaird.
I would not at all sugest you open up a laptop unless you knew completely what you were doing.

If it is not under warranty I think you may need to buy a new CD/DVD rom drive.

Hello Ashok, welcome to PCHF by the way.

I agree that this is likely to be a hardware problem. Just because it is able to open and close, means absolutely nothing, it just means that the drive is still receiving power. The connections between the power and the motherboard are seperate entities. What is the make and model of the laptop? Depending on your BIOS, it may show as disabled and undetected if it is unable to communicate with the drive.
