Default Internet hook up

I have to say this forum is great.
Now I have another question. As I stated in my previous thread I am setting up a Dell dimension 4600 to get online. The unit has a network card but I am still stuck with dial-up so I went to install a 56K modem.
It seems like the architecture is different and the modem doesn't line up properly. Any ideas what I might be doing wrong or do I need to try another modem?
Thanks in advance for any help

By architecture you mean.. the PCI slot? Is the card or slot bigger/smaller then the other?

Yup, that's what I mean. The modem card is larger than the available slots plus it appears to have to go in backwards or upside down? Could that possibly be right or am I possibly doing something wrong?

Is it possible for you to take a picture so you can show me? (Of both the motherboard and the card)

I can see where that would make it much easier but I can't take a pic right now. Camera is loaned out at the moment.
I just double checked and the modem doesn't fit at all. I should mention it is an older modem out of a clone unit. It says Lucent 56K, maybe I need a newer one?

That's definitely a PCI modem, should fit, are there no other slots you can fit it in?
