Default Canon MP510 Install issues.

Agh, i'm going crazy now!.

I got my Canon MP510 printer today to replace my lexmark 640, but ive got some serious issues installing the thing.

First off, before wiring the entire printer up i decided to go to the canon website and download all the latest drivers/software for it (vista 64bit compatible) firstly i install the drivers, when prompted to plug the printer it i do so (and turn it on) and it detects a device but cannot find the drivers, even if i direct it to the canon program files folder.

So then i installed the latest software, did nothing (as i expected)....so then i completely removed all the drivers/software and installed from the disc supplied with the printer itself.

Still no joy. a device is detected (which Vista reffers to as a MP510) even when Vista asks me to "insert the Disc that came with the mp510" i do so and it STILL DOESN'T DETECT ANY DRIVERS!!.

Ive also tried plugging the printer into each usb port and installing it. for some reason some devices have an issue with certain ports from what ive heard.

After doing all this now IE doesn't work, as soon as i try and launch the browser it just gives me a window saying "IE has stopped working" with the standard options of: "Check online for a solution/close the program" even after a restart i get this..... luckily i had Firefox installed which i'm using right now.

Oh. and also a new drive has appeared in my computer, just titled "removable disk, F:"

Great start Canon. perhaps i'd be better off with Lexmark....

Can anyone help me?. i'm really starting to lose my patience with this thing.

Thanks .

Just explorer seeing the software disc in the drive -- no biggie

Great start Canon. perhaps i'd be better off with Lexmark....
No way-- Canon is a far superior brand IMO-- Vista ? I have my doubts still-- especially with software/driver installs

Can anyone help me?. i'm really starting to lose my patience with this thing.

I'll try...

I clicked on that URL but nothing came up :/

Ive been in touch with canon. i basically copy/pasted my thread here and they replied with:

In response to your query, please try the following steps:

- go to the system’s Device Manager
- look under Imaging Devices or Other Devices for the MP510
- right click on the device name and select Update Driver
- then browse for the driver manually from the unzipped folder that resulted from the extraction of the downloaded driver

Yours sincerely,

Canon Support Centre
I tried this. but it didn't work. as soon as i direct it to the canon folder and hit next, it immediatly says "windows was unable to install your MP510".

There is no progress bar, no pause...nothing. it just instantly pops up that message after i direct it to the extracted folder. then all i can click is "close".

Still waiting for a response from canon........can anyone here help me?. please?.

edit--

Just tried installing the driver in safe mode (via device manager as the canon employee suggests) this also didn't do a thing, still got the same rubbish "no driver was found"

edit #2--

Disabled driver signing, this also did nothing.

OK -- if you google for Canon Support-- go to that page-- and when you get there use the search to find your products support page-- The **** links don't work for some reason.

anyway--at the top of the page there are tabs- one is step-by-step troubleshooting-- click on that link, then on Windows Vista category.

See what the troubleshooter comes up with-- maybe good advice /maybe nothing-- in the meantme-- I'll type out a post on what I think would work for a manual fix.

Let me know how it works-- like I said-- I don't expect a miracle-- but sometimes they work fine

I'm still not sure that i follow you. i assume this is because your reffering to the US version of the Canon site, not the UK.

I followed the guides on the uk site and the most relevent was one which talked about the CD bundled with the printer. i basically read how my cd was out of date. which i already knew. i never touch the CD's bundled with hardware for this reason, i update to the latest drivers/software on the net.

After looking on the US version. there is no difference. when i hit the "vista compatibility" support page it just leads me over things that ive already tried.

I did download the US version of the driver (yes, there is a difference, at least in filesize).

Sadly trying to install it gives me the same issue - doesn't work. device is still in Device manager with a !........

I would manually install the US driver, but it uses a "winzip self extractor" and doesn't tell me where it extracts too. ive looked in C:, and Temp folders and not found a thing.

I'm really beyond ****** now. i think if i dont find a solution in the next couple of days Canon will have a angry visit from me....its odd how i dont get any of this bull with my other devices. only this canon printer.
